General Santos City or Gensan is the Tuna Capital of the Philippines and the home of world famous boxer, Manny Pacquiao. Named after the first Christian settler, General Paulino Santos, General Santos City is the gateway to Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat, and Cotabato provinces.
Festival & Celebrations
Tuna Festival (September 1-5)
Tuna Festival celebrates the tuna industry of General Santos City. Tuna parade and activities featuring different tuna products are the highlights of the festival.
Pasko sa Gensan (December 1-31)
This month-long Christmas festival features activities such as caroling, singing contests, lantern-making competitions, bazaars, fireworks displays, and many more. Event highlight is the building of a Christmas landmark using locally-produced materials.
Kalilangan (February 22-27)
Maguindanaoan term for festivity, Kalilangan celebrates Gensan's economic progress. The week-long affair recognizes the city's dynamic cultural heritage.
Yaman Gensan Celebration (June 23-July 22)
Business conferences, meetings, trade fairs, and exhibits are done in the Yaman Gensan Celebration. Intended not only to showcase different products of Gensan and Mindanao, but to also enhance the culture of entrepreneurship among the people. The celebration is culminated by honoring the city's most outstanding entrepreneurs through the annual Yaman Awards.

Start your day with a cold dip in any of Gensan's spring resorts or visit Siguel River for water tubing. All of these are just 30 minutes away from the city proper.
Experience nature in Klaja Eco Park. Hike through its crystal-clear rivers, scramble over the boulders of the 12 waterfalls of Amsicong, climb the Malakong Wall, watch fruit-eating flying fox bats, or try the 700-meter zipline across the cliffwalls of Balakayo. Throw in a hands-on experience on indeginous way of cooking and have a camping trip to Bagongbuhay Peak to witness scenic views of the city and surrounding provinces.
Check out El Minit Geyser. Situated between Gensan and T'boli of South Cotabato, this rare geographic wonder spurts hot water to up to 3 meters high.
